A while back I called my daughter, who was away at college at the time to wish her a Happy New Year! The conversation formulated into her discussing her concerns and dilemmas, as her undergraduate college years were coming to an end. Becoming a lawyer had always been her dream. However, she embarked upon an awareness that she wanted to be free to utilize her creative gifts, skills and talents that being a lawyer may inhibit her from doing so. Well, at that point, as a mother, I have learned that you can no longer tell your child(ren) who have transitioned into adulthood what to do. So, the first thing that I did was intensively listened to her heart. I had to creatively verbalize my thoughts and challenge her mind that often times we are fulfilling the dreams of others through the common goal of having a job, sprayed with the sweet aroma called “a career.” Ultimately, it isn’t designed for you to inherit your legacy. My daughter strongly expressed that she sees me relentlessly working to fulfill my dreams and it appears that I am all over the place. I assured her that it is strictly an appearance. However, a successful person has many failures in their endeavors before they arrive at the peak of their destination. I stressed to her that this society is filled with too many people who possess the fear of failure and that she cannot be one of those if she wants to move beyond the status quo of mediocrity. So I say to everyone who reads this column, “Rid yourself from the fear of failure.” The first strategy is to do something this year that you haven’t done before. If you are a mother of a dunamis woman, ages 17-25, share this article with her and urge her to connect with my daughter via website. As a mother and daughter team, our goal is to empower every young dunamis woman from the ages of 17-25 to tap into their God given gifts and talents. Dunamis Woman, Inc. will reward them with more opportunities for the world of our future leaders. Yes mothers, our children should go to college in pursuit of a higher education, however, a job or career is not guaranteed to anyone.
